The proudly British nature of the Athenaeum doesn’t stop on reaching the hotel’s restaurant; the cuisine is ‘essentially English’, with traditional British cuisine dominating the menu. The chef uses local produce where possible, with specials changing on a daily basis. While dining at the restaurant visitors can make the most of valet parking which is charged hourly for up to three hours.
The hotel is known for its afternoon tea, so much so that it recently received the Top London Afternoon Tea 2008 Award of Excellence, courtesy of the Tea Guild. It is imperative that guests book should they wish to enjoy this service due to its apparent popularity. Paris’ Laduree tea shop is to thank for this provision, the Athenaeum being the only London venue to work with the prestigious company.
There is also a whisky bar at the hotel which is home to more than 270 whiskies, a selection of fine single malts and rare beverages from the world over. You can also indulge in a specially designed whisky tasting dinner or enjoy a whisky passport which includes a tour of various London whisky sites.
